FATUM, the new thriller produced by Vaca Films, directed by Juan Galiñanes and starring Luis Tosar, Álex García, Arón Piper, Luisa Mayol and Elena Anaya is now in theaters in Spain distributed by Universal.
FATUM brings together in its leading roles three great actors of our cinematography: Luis Tosar (En los márgenes, Código Emperador, Hasta el cielo), Álex García (El inmortal, Antidisturbios, Si yo fuera rico) and Elena Anaya (Jaula, Wonder Woman, La piel que habito). The cast is completed by Arón Piper (Código Emperador, El desorden que dejas, Élite), Luisa Mayol (Eye for an eye) and Pepa Gracia (La Unidad), among others.
The first feature film by Juan Galiñanes, with a screenplay written by himself and Alberto Marini (La Unidad, Retribution), is a fast-paced and exciting thriller that takes place in just 12 hours around a betting house robbery.
FATUM is an original and surprising vision about the weight of destiny and chance and how it influences in a decisive way in our lives and immediate future.
Its director and screenwriter Juan Galiñanes, who debuts in feature films after a successful and award-winning career as editor and short filmmaker, says that “‘FATUM is destiny, which is the main engine of the story as well as another protagonist. A story full of emotion and tension, with characters full of life and humanity that face the whims of destiny head-on. The tension mutates from the physical to the emotional. In ‘FATUM’ the key is chance. That current that comes and goes, for and against the protagonists who try to avoid it or fight against it in those decisive and definitive twelve hours”.
According to Luis Tosar “‘FATUM’ talks about the decisions we make. The good ones and the ones that end up not being so good. And, of course, about the consequences of those decisions. It poses both moral and emotional dilemmas”. Opposite Tosar, we find Álex García: “The film takes your heart and emotions to the limit at every minute and in every sequence. It is very entertaining but it is also intense, emotional and profound. How do you relate to others? How do you live your day to day life? How do you face and deal with adversity?”. A vertiginous and pressing countdown that Elena Anaya defines as “pure adrenaline”. According to the actress, “‘FATUM’ has the power of that instant in people’s lives that can change their future forever”.
Emma Lustres, producer of the film, highlights that FATUM “is a film full of tension and adrenaline, but with a strong social background that overlaps all the action, and with a dramatic charge that appeals to the most universal feelings. FATUM addresses the classic themes of ‘noir’ with a contemporary look”.
Sergio (Luis Tosar) has serious gambling problems. After swearing to his wife that he would never gamble again, he receives a tip about an alleged soccer match fixing and, unable to keep his promise, he returns to the betting house with the intention of recovering all the money he has lost. The tip turns out to be true and his luck is finally going to change… but Alejo (Aron Piper), who also has a gambling past, bursts into the place with a gun.
Pablo (Alex Garcia), a GEO sniper, is pressured by Commissioner Costa (Elena Anaya) to serve in the heist. But the GEO’s head is somewhere else, in the hospital, where his son’s life hangs in the balance.
As fate would have it, Sergio and Pablo are involved in a robbery at a gambling house, where a gunshot will change their lives forever.
