EL CORREO ends shooting

The shooting of EL CORREO, the new feature film by Daniel Calparsoro, has finished. (Todos los nombres de Dios, Hasta el cielo,) written by Patxi Amezcua (Infiesto) and Alejo Flah (Taxi a Gibraltar) and produced by Vaca Films (Fatum, Sky High, The mess you leave behind, The Unit).

It is a thriller with acid comedy elements starring Aron Piper. (Fatum, El silencio, The mess you leave behind, Élite), María Pedraza (Las niñas de cristal, Elite, Money Heist) and Luis Tosar (Fatum, Sky High, Cell 211) accompanied by  Laura Sépul (Baraki, Into the night, Enemigo público), Nourdin Batán (Todos los nombres de dios, Hit, The Unit) José Manuel Poga (La Fortaleza, Tú también lo harías, Money Heist), and Luis Zahera (As bestas , La Unidad, Celda 211) among others.

According to its director, Daniel Calparsoro, EL CORREO narrates “the ‘golden age’ after the arrival of the euro in Spain, following the adventures of a young hustler, and his rise from the street to the top of the corruption that surrounded the years of the real estate bubble”.

SYNOPSIS  

Year 2002. Spain enters the euro. It is a time of opportunities, for the smart ones. Like Iván, a kid from Vallecas who has outgrown his neighborhood.

From his position as a valet at a luxurious golf club in the capital, he will soon take his first big step: becoming a Belgian courier for an international organization dedicated to money laundering. Ivan will start transporting suitcases to Brussels and Geneva.

But Ivan can’t keep his eyes off the top. The real black money is flowing on the Costa del Sol. Construction businessmen, corrupt politicians, bankers, sportsmen, the Chinese mafia? Ivan wants his share of the cake.

This is the story of a young man who had nothing and dared to have it all. Until everything exploded.

A high voltage story about excess and delusions of grandeur, a reflection of an era that will never return.  A story in which the life of Ivan, our protagonist, is intertwined with the most emblematic moments of recent history.

Filming took place over 6 weeks in locations in Madrid, Marbella, Brussels, Geneva and Hong Kong.

 EL CORREO, es una producción de Vaca Films in co-production with Panache Productions and La Compagnie Cinématographique, in partnership with Playtime, with the participation of Netflix, RTVE, Movistar Plus+, Canal + and Ciné+, with funding from ICAA-Ministerio de Cultura and the support of the European Union’s Creative Europe Program, and with the help of the Tax Shelter of the Belgian Federal Government and the Tax Shelter of Movie Tax Invest.

The film will be distributed in Spain by Universal Pictures International Spain and released exclusively in theaters in 2024.

About DANIEL CALPARSORO

Daniel Calparsoro is one of the fundamental directors of the Spanish film industry. A groundbreaking filmmaker of international prestige, with films sold and released all over the world. He is also a specialist in the so-called Iberian thriller.  Since his first feature film, Salto al vacío, with which he became known and participated in the Berlin Film Festival.

He has recently released for Netflix the series adaptation of the successful thriller Hasta el cielo, one of the highest grossing films of 2021. His filmography also includes titles in series and films such as Todos los nombres de dios, Operación Marea Negra, Centauro and El regreso de la espia, among others.

Calparsoro has shot more than a dozen feature films, as well as TV-movies and TV series. El castigo broke audience records on Antena 3. His second feature film, Pasajes, participated in the New Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival and Cien años de perdón, in addition to injecting large doses of adrenaline to viewers with one of the biggest robberies ever told in Spanish cinema, became one of the highest grossing films of 2016 with several nominations for the Goya Awards.
